As uncovered by Wirecutter, Nest cameras that had been connected to the Wink smart hub through Works With Nest were still accessible to the original owner, even after the camera had been reset to its factory settings. If you purchased a used Nest cam, you should make sure it's on the latest firmware version, which will fix this issue. The Blink XT security camera is getting a successor. But one problem with this kind of installation is that no one is there to walk you through how the system works. You also don’t have someone to help you get it hooked up, and if you have to work with customer service over the phone, it can become stressful. Still, there’s something that feels quite nice about being able to install the system yourself and to get it working right.
