home security systems alarm

Looking to move beyond the current 21 percent to 22 percent penetration among broadband households, professional monitoring providers may be hard pressed to find a single silver bullet. Among consumers without a home security system or professional monitoring service subscription, no single feature had high levels of appeal. A service without a long term contract was the most appealing to this group, with other features such as the ability to monitor a system using a smartphone or one that includes control of the thermostat scoring between 23 percent and 29 percent. Most alarming is that half of those without systems just aren’t interested — today or under any offered conditions. This creates added importance to maintaining existing customers, and Parks Associates research shows these customers largely value price savings. When those who terminated service in the past year were asked the reason for terminating their service, 36 percent said they didn’t feel the service was worth what they were paying for it.

The automation features from Vivint are second to none. The company offers a full line of smart products to automate your home without gaps in coverage. Systems can include a Vivint doorbell camera, Ping indoor cameras, Vivint outdoor cameras, an Element thermostat, Kwikset smart locks, an Amazon Echo, and Linear garage door control. With a smart home from Vivint, you get control, comfort, and convenience. You can control all your automated equipment from the Amazon Echo with your voice, from the physical control panel in your home, or from the Vivint Sky app. Sky is an AI assistant that is built into the app, and it uses machine learning to automate and manage your smart home for you. If you program it to, Sky can make decisions for your home based on sensors, geolocation, and history. Using the geolocation feature on your phone, the Element thermostat learns your preferred temperature settings and then auto adjusts when you arrive home. When your home is empty, the thermostat readjusts to conserve energy. ADT is one of the most recognized names in the home security business. The company was founded in 1874 as the first home security system network.

home security systems

Look for a home security system with a full line of wireless peripherals, including modules for controlling lights and appliances, thermostats, cameras, motion sensors some can distinguish between a pet and a person, water sensors, and glass break and vibration sensors. Look for long life battery power, too. Lithium sensor batteries, for example, can last three to five years. When they do run low, the system lets you know well in advance. Choose a controller with back up battery so the system will stay active in the event of a power outage or if the Internet is down. If you will be installing smoke alarms you’ll need the extra power of a 24 hour battery back up, not the 4 hour back up offered by many manufacturers. THE COST FOR SECURITY There are two costs to keep in mind when shopping for a home security system. The first is for the equipment and the installation, if you’re having it done by a professional. It can run from a few hundred dollars for a basic installation or less that half of that if you install it yourself to north of $1000 for a full feature system with specialized sensors and wireless smoke and CO detectors. The second is the monthly service charge that includes fees for software driven features and central station monitoring. It typically ranges between $35 and $60 per month.
